Night golf cart tours in Rome usually run for about 2 hours, starting around sunset. You see the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and other landmarks lit up, with fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. They're most popular from May to September, and private evening tours can be arranged year-round.
Why go at night
- It's cooler. In July and August, afternoon temperatures in Rome regularly pass 30°C. An evening tour avoids the worst of it.
- Fewer crowds. The Trevi Fountain at 10pm is far calmer than at noon.
- The lighting. The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the fountains are floodlit, which makes for great photos.
- Easy dinner plans. Many tours can drop you at a restaurant in the center at the end.
What you'll typically see
- The Colosseum and the Roman Forum lit up
- Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano
- The Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon
- Piazza Navona with its street life
- Often St. Peter's Square or the Gianicolo viewpoint over the rooftops
Practical tips
- Book for 30–60 minutes before sunset to see the city in daylight and then lit up.
- Bring a light jacket: open carts get breezy after dark, even in summer.
- Night tours are fewer than day tours, so book a few days ahead in high season.
