Golf cart tours are great for families in Rome: kids enjoy the ride and nobody gets tired of walking. Some operators provide free child seats for ages 2–12 but don't accept infants under 2, while others allow babies in a pram or stroller. Private tours with hotel pickup and a gelato stop are the easiest option.
Ages and child seats
- Policies differ by operator. One popular operator provides child seats or boosters for free for ages 2–12 and doesn't accept infants under 2 for safety reasons.
- Other tours allow infants in a pram or stroller, and some are marked as not suitable for babies. Check the listing.
- Always tell the operator each child's age when booking so the right seats are ready.
Making it fun for kids
- Pick a tour with gelato. It's the highlight for most children.
- Ask about the stories. Gladiators at the Colosseum, chariot races at Circus Maximus, and throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain.
- Try the Aventine keyhole. Peeking through it to see St. Peter's dome is a favourite.
- Keep it short for young kids: a 1.5–2.5-hour tour is plenty.
Practical tips
- Private tours let you stop for bathroom breaks and snacks whenever you need.
- Bring hats and water in summer.
- Larger families can book two carts on some tours, up to 14 people.
